Hello, My name is Cynthia and I am an energetic, forward thinking, wife, mother, daughter, sister, and educator living in Alexandria, Louisiana.
I currently work part time with a VA Health Care System as a License Clinical Social Worker, an active member of my church community, a frequent volunteer in my children’s school, and I am now excited about starting my journey into an online business helping families care for their senior family members.
My Story:
I have been married to my college sweet heart for 24 years and we have two wonderful teenage boys, as well as their four legged brothers, Patches, the beloved dog and Garfield, our stray cat. We have lived in Alexandria, Louisiana for 16 years and I have worked as a Social Worker in the fields of Hospital, Geriatrics, Hospice and Palliative Care social work for almost 20 years.
My love of the geriatric population began while I was pursuing my BS Degree in Social Work at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and continued into graduate school at Louisiana State University. After obtaining my Masters of Social Work Degree, my husband and I moved to Shreveport, Louisiana where I worked as a social worker for a community hospice. After two years of living in Shreveport, Louisiana my husband accepted a position in Central Louisiana and I was fortunate to be able to also transfer with the community hospice I worked for at the time to Alexandria, Louisiana.
For the next several years I continued to work in our local community as a hospice social worker and to volunteer with various senior organizations, as my husband and I raised our children.
Approximately, three years ago I had the wonderful opportunity to take all of my professional experiences and utilize it in my personal life as my mother in law came to live with us after suffering a stroke. As a result of my mother in law’s stroke, she suffered from visual and auditory hallucinations. It was here that began my journey as a parent who was “parenting in the middle,” both caring for my young children and my mother in law.
As a result of my many experiences, both professional and personal, my desire to assist other women who are caring for both their own children and a parent or other family member, developed.
It is my sincerest desire that I will be able to help other women in their varied roles as wives, mothers, daughters, sisters, and professionals as they walk that same path of caring for a loved one while also “parenting in the middle”.
Supporting Seniors Together,
Cynthia
